History

1968 Diasorin is born as a division of Sorin Biomedica S.p.A. (at the time part of the Fiat Group) specialized in diagnostic products based on the RIA technology.
From inception into the early 1980s, research and development programs focus on broadening and consolidating the Company’s immunochemistry knowhow and exploring nuclear-based technologies for in vitro and in vivo diagnostics applications. The first products developed by the Diasorin Division are based on the RIA (Radio Immuno Assay) technology.
1980 Launch of the first line of hepatitis products.
1982-1997 Innovation through automation. Diasorin grows and expands through acquisitions and organically.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Diasorin, consistent with the innovative effort that was reshaping the immunodiagnostics sector in response to an increase in the volume and types of tests requested by the market, focuses its research activities and investments on the development of leading-edge biotechnologies and increasingly automated and flexible systems based first on the ELISA (Enzyme Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay) technology and later on the CLIA (ChemiLuminescent Immuno Assay) technology.
1982 Launch of the fist line of hepatitis products based on the ELISA technology.
1989 Sorin Biomedica acquires control of INCSTAR Inc., a U.S. company in the in vitro diagnostics business listed on the American Stock Exchange.
1997 The in vitro diagnostics operations are spun off to a company called Diasorin S.r.l (formerly Sorin Diagnostics S.r.l), which is then sold to American Standard Inc (ASI).
2000-2006 Streamlining of the shareholder base, acquisition of the LIAISON technology, development of the CLIA technology and geographic expansion.
Diasorin launches a process of expansion that produces a steady improvement in profitability, a consolidation of its competitive position in its target market and an expansion of its geographic footprint with the Company establishing a presence, both directly and indirectly, in the main international markets.
2000 The Company’s management, supported by Iniziativa Piemonte (now called Investimenti e Partecipazioni S.p.A.) and other financial and industrial investors that include Interbanca and SNIA, carries out a management buyout, acquiring Diasorin from America Standard Inc.
2001 The Company enters into a licensing and distribution agreement for the latest-generation CLIA technology and the LIAISON system with Altana AG, a German pharmaceutical company that owns the Byk Sangtec Group, with which Diasorin s.r.l. establishes a joint venture that same year.
2002 Having realized the strategic importance of controlling the CLIA technology, Diasorin acquires from Altana AG the companies of the Byk Sangtec Group and becomes the owner of the rights to the LIAISON system.
The process of converting to the CLIA technology the Diasorin products already available with the ELISA and RIA technologies gets under way. Over 40 new products for the LIAISON system are developed between 2001 and 2006.
2003 SNIA sells its investment in Diasorin.
Diasorin decides to explore opportunities in molecular biology for immunodiagnostics and acquires certain assets belonging to Gamida Sense Ltd, an Israeli company.
2005 Interbanca S.p.A. sells its investment and Iniziativa Piemonte becomes Diasorin’s controlling shareholder.
2005-2006 New phase of expansion in the international markets.
Diasorin begins a phase of further geographic expansion in the international markets, broadening its direct and indirect distribution networks, entering several emerging markets with evolving health care systems and focusing on continuous technological innovation.
2005 Diasorin Mexico, established in 2001, becomes a direct sales subsidiary. Diasorin Israel is established.
Diasorin, in cooperation with Stratec Biomedical Systems AG, its current supplier of the LIAISON system, launches a project to develop a new system called LIAISON XL, which will replace the existing system but will maintain backward compatibility with existing reagents and formats.
2006 Diasorin China is established.
The Diasorin Group signs agreements with local operators for the LIAISON systems in Oceania and Japan.
